On Friday, the official Twitter account for My Hero Academia manga announced that the series is taking a break for two weeks due to the poor health of its author, Kōhei Horikoshi. The manga will not be appearing in the 15th and 16th issues of Weekly Shonen Jump, set to release on Monday and March 20 respectively. However, it will return in the 17th issue on March 27. This is not the first time the manga has gone on hiatus due to Horikoshi’s health, as it took a one-week break in December and a two-week break last month.
My Hero Academia was first launched by Horikoshi in Weekly Shonen Jump in July 2014 and has since become one of the most popular manga and anime franchises worldwide. The manga’s 37th compiled book volume was released in Japan on February 3, 2022, and it is published in English digitally and in print by Viz Media in North America, while Shueisha’s MANGA Plus service publishes the manga in English digitally.
The anime adaptation of the manga has also been a huge success, with its first season premiering in April 2016. Since then, four more seasons have followed, with the most recent season, season six, premiering on October 1, 2022. The sixth season will air for two continuous cours, totaling 25 episodes. Crunchyroll is streaming the anime as it airs in Japan, and an English dub is also available. Toonami is also airing the anime. Additionally, there have been several original video anime adaptations for the franchise, which have been streamed by Funimation and Crunchyroll.
