The newly rebooted “Pokemon Horizons” series has been creating buzz among fans, particularly due to its new protagonist, Liko. While Ash Ketchum was just a regular kid excited to embark on his Pokemon journey, Liko has already set herself apart from Ash in terms of her unique role in the plot. In episode three of “Pokemon Horizons,” it becomes evident that Liko is no ordinary kid, and that the series has taken a different approach in terms of plot emphasis.
In contrast to Ash, who initially appeared as an everyboy exploring the world from the perspective of an average person, Liko has already started out with something that sets her apart. In episode three, Liko is left searching for the villains who took her Sprigatito with them after they lost in the previous episode’s end. With the help of the crew and Rockruff’s nose, Liko tracks down the villains and offers her pendant in exchange, which their leader, Amethio, was interested in previously. However, he suggests that without Liko, the pendant isn’t useful to them, and they agree to a winner-take-all battle. If Amethio wins, he’ll hand over Liko and the pendant, and if Friede wins, Sprigatito will be returned. The battle turns out to be a ruse, and Liko takes off on her own to rescue Sprigatito.
The episode ends with the airship setting sail for Paldea, Liko’s homeland, with her mother apparently hiring Friede and his crew to act as her bodyguards. From the events that have transpired so far, it is clear that there is something special about Liko in particular, aside from being the owner of the pendant. Liko’s mother must have had reason to believe that bad guys might try to harm her, or she would not have hired the Rising Volt Tacklers to begin with. The pendant was also shown to transform into a never-before-seen Pokemon in the second episode, creating a barrier that protected Liko from an attack. The pendant Pokemon seems to have acted on its own in response to Liko’s danger, suggesting there may be a strong connection between Liko and this mystery Pokemon. It may even be that Liko is the only one able to bring the Pokemon out of the pendant, hence why Amethio would need her too.
It is not yet clear exactly what makes Liko special, but it is evident at this point that Liko is not an ordinary kid. This fact alone has already set “Pokemon Horizons” apart from previous series, placing Liko in a different role from Ash, even as a consequence of Pokemon’s newfound emphasis on plot. The fans are curious to see how Liko’s role in the plot will develop further and how her connection with the mysterious pendant Pokemon will unfold.
