Haikyu!! has been making headlines lately with the release of its fourth season and the manga’s controversial time skip that takes the characters into the future a few years. However, the popular volleyball anime series is now taking things to the next level by collaborating with real-life professional volleyball players.
In a collaboration video released by the official English Twitter account for Haikyu!!, the Japan Men’s National Volleyball Team is seen playing alongside the anime’s characters. The Japanese team is set to compete for their nation during the 2020 Summer Olympics, making the collaboration all the more exciting for fans.
The time skip in the manga has left fans divided, with some feeling disappointed that the protagonists may not achieve their championship aspirations. It remains to be seen where the franchise will go from here, especially with the team no longer being a cohesive unit. However, the fourth season of the anime is still eagerly anticipated by fans.
For those who are new to the franchise, Haikyu!! is a manga and anime series created by Haruichi Furudate in 2012 for Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump. The manga has sold over 28 million copies to date and has been licensed for an English language release by Viz Media. The anime adaptation, produced by Production I.G., has three seasons under its belt, with a fourth currently airing.
The series follows the story of Shoyo Hinata, a high school student who is inspired by a small-statured professional volleyball player. Hinata creates a volleyball team in his last year of middle school, but his team is defeated by Tobio Kageyama’s team, also known as the “King of the Court.” After entering high school, Hinata joins the volleyball team and is surprised to find that Kageyama has also joined. The series is available for streaming on Crunchyroll.
