The ongoing anime adventures of One Piece are taking a short break before sailing back for fans in March. A preview for the next installment of the long-running anime debuted on the show’s official YouTube channel after the latest episode, “Sanji’s Mutation – The Two Arms in Crisis!,” released on Sunday, Feb. 26. It gave a look at the upcoming Episode 1054, as well as the news that the series would be taking a short hiatus, returning from a three-week break on March 19. The announcement of the hiatus comes after the latest episode, which ended on a cliffhanger as the battle between Sanji and Queen intensified. The follow-up episode, titled “Death To Your Partner! Killer’s Deadly Gamble!,” promises to be just as thrilling.
The preview video for One Piece Episode 1054 focuses on the struggles of Killer and Eustass “Captain” Kid as they find themselves at the losing end of the battle against Big Mom and Hawkins. The preview teases Killer taking a huge risk in an attempt to save his captain and defeat their enemies after being tricked by a spell from Hawkins and inadvertently bringing Kid to the brink of death.
One Piece’s anime is produced by Toei Animation and has been running since 1999. In that time, it has produced over 1000 episodes and 15 movies, the latest of which was One Piece Film: Red which saw the franchise achieve the biggest box office numbers in its history. The series is based on the manga of the same name, written by Eiichiro Oda and serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump since 1997. The latest chapter, 1076, continues the long-running story with more thrilling developments. The franchise follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy as he leads the crew of the Straw Hat Pirates on a quest to find the legendary treasure of the former Pirate King Gol D Roger; a treasure known as One Piece.
For fans who can’t wait for the next episode, the entire anime is available to stream on Crunchyroll. Netflix also hosts the One Piece: Stampede movie, and an upcoming live-action One Piece series is in the works. In the meantime, the Toriko x One Piece x Dragon Ball Z crossover will broadcast an English dub on Toonami on March 4, 2023, providing fans with some exciting content during the wait.
