Aniplex of America and Crunchyroll, both Sony group companies, are gearing up to broadcast new episodes of the anime series “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Swordsmith Village Arc” simultaneously from April 9, 2023. Fans of the show can expect to catch new episodes weekly, with the service exclusively available in North America, South America, and Europe.
The anime series is based on a manga series published under Shueisha’s Jump Comics, which comprises 23 volumes and has sold over 150 million copies. The story begins with the tragic event where Tanjiro Kamado’s family is killed by a demon. He joins the Demon Slayer Corps to turn his younger sister, who has transformed into a demon, back into a human.
The anime series premiered in April 2019 with the Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc, followed by the feature film “Demon Slayer: Mugen Train” in October 2020. The Mugen Train Arc and Entertainment District Arc aired on television from 2021 through 2022.
In February 2023, the “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba -To the Swordsmith Village” film began its worldwide theatrical screenings in 95 countries and regions. The film has been a tremendous success, grossing over $30 million in Japan and $10 million in North America.
The new TV series marks a shift in the story to a new location where Tanjiro reunites with two Hashira members, the highest-ranking swordsmen of the Demon Slayer Corps. With the shadows of demons lurking nearby, a new battle begins for Tanjiro and his comrades.
The voice cast for the series includes Hanae Natsuki as Kamado Tanjiro, Kito Akari as Kamado Nezuko, Shimono Hiro as Agatsuma Zenitsu, Matsuoka Yoshitsugu as Hashibira Inosuke, Kawanishi Kengo as Tokito Muichiro, Hanazawa Kana as Kanroji Mitsuri, Okamoto Nobuhiko as Genya, Furukawa Toshio as Hantengu, and Toriumi Kousuke as Gyokko.
The release of “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Swordsmith Village Arc” comes during a big month for Japanese anime in North America. Shinkai Makoto’s “Suzume,” already a box office hit in Japan, is currently the number one film in both China and South Korea and is set to release in the United States on April 14th. Only one Japanese animation has scored more than $50 million in North American theaters, so this is an exciting time for fans of Japanese animation in North America.
